One of the most requested skills of a photo retoucher is the ability to remove, or "silhouette" subjects in images from their backgrounds for the purpose of replacing the background with an alternate image or color.
As a retoucher and a graphic artist, I always ensure that when I begin the process of silhouetting a subject within an image to remove a background, that I complete the process from start to finish entirely non-destructively so that I maintain the integrity of the original image throughout my editing workflow.
